The Founder's Chronicle

About RPDeck

Built by a roleplayer. For Final Fantasy XIV.

I didn't build RPDeck because there was nothing out there. I built it because everything out there was built for someone else.

Where This Came From

I've been roleplaying for over twenty years. It started in tabletop games around a kitchen table, moved into early MMOs, and eventually found a home in World of Warcraft — where I spent years building and running guilds, writing lore documents, organizing events, and trying to hold communities together through expansions, drama, and the inevitable quiet periods between.

When I came to Final Fantasy XIV, I found something I hadn't expected: a game that actually cared about its story, a community that took roleplay seriously, and a world rich enough to sustain years of original storytelling. I've been here ever since. I've run free companies, coordinated cross-FC storylines, and watched this community grow into something genuinely special.

But every time I looked for a place to organize it all — to list characters, find other roleplayers, discover events — I kept running into the same problem. The sites that exist are built by companies. They're designed to serve every game, every community, every possible use case. They're monetized, ad-supported, and optimized for growth metrics rather than for the people actually using them.

RPDeck is my answer to that. It's not trying to be everything for everyone. It's a focused tool for Final Fantasy XIV roleplayers on the Aether data center — built the way I'd want a site like this to be built, by someone who actually plays the game and cares about the community.

What We Believe

FFXIV First

This site is not a generic RP platform. It is built specifically for Final Fantasy XIV. The lore, the terminology, the community norms — everything here is shaped by the game we actually play.

Community Over Commerce

There are no ads here. No premium tiers that lock features behind a paywall. No growth hacking. RPDeck exists to serve the community, not to extract value from it.

Built by a Player

Every decision made here comes from someone who has spent years in this community — running guilds, writing lore, organizing events, and making the same mistakes you have. This isn't a product. It's a labor of love.

Quality Over Scale

RPDeck is not trying to be the biggest RP site on the internet. It's trying to be the best tool for the people who actually use it. A smaller, well-tended community is worth more than a sprawling one nobody maintains.

What Makes This Different

Most RP profile sites are built around the assumption that you need to serve every game, every server, every playstyle. The result is a tool that does a lot of things adequately and nothing particularly well.

RPDeck makes the opposite bet. By focusing entirely on Final Fantasy XIV — and specifically on the Aether data center — it can be shaped around the actual way this community works. The terminology is right. The lore references make sense. The event structure fits the way FFXIV RP actually happens.

It also means the person maintaining it is invested in the same community you are. When something doesn't work, or when the community's needs change, there's someone paying attention who actually cares about getting it right.

A Note to the Community

If you've spent time in this community — if you've sat in the Quicksand hoping someone would walk up and start a scene, if you've stayed up too late writing backstory nobody asked for, if you've felt the particular joy of a storyline that actually landed — then this site is for you. Welcome home.
